Living today

Recently I came to know of an institution ‘Art of Living’. It’s an international secular organization which is doing exceptional work to bring peace within individual lives and to the whole world. Listening to Denash, one of the very active member of the organization was telling that how we change the lives. Few of his words that I could remember most of us always regret our past and always fear our future and in doing so we just blunder with our today. We around the world give lessons, conduct programs and take courses to solve the problem. The organization is actively working with some United Nation wing and the last year on certain day they collected around one-hundred thousand youth to celebrate some event for world peace. I was admired by the guy, his work and with his institution.

The institution was started by a person I guess (Sri Sri) who is an adherent Hindu person and even most of the staff of the institutions are Hindu. He is currently the nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize. But they are doing the work for whole world and they have many Muslims volunteer and students with them as well.

I can connect their work with the work of numerous other institutions and organizations that are working for the whole world but might be directed through certain religion. The religion (in the past and currently) has made people to do work for the betterment of the masses and made people to learn ethics and maintain a morality.
But there are many group which uses force, coercive measure and do things which are not good for the masses that might include the current situation at Lal Mosque in Islamabad and many more.

Here someone might come up with an argument that the group of people which are doing not greater good still might be justified because that is what they are being taught to them. This is widely evident from the fact that nearly all the religion asks their followers to go for greater good and spread the message of peace & love. These few groups take those interpretations in a very extreme manner and thus try to take the charge of the whole society.

The rapid development of the society as a whole has made us to reach to the information age coupled with globalization, diversity and pluralism. There must be few norms that we need to learn for living in this world and might have not been taught to many due to their not participation, progression with the technology, time and civilization. That must include new ethics and morality as now anyone can travel anywhere and communicate with anyone. These ethics and morality should include respect for others, inter-faith harmony and secular in public-sphere of life.

This responsibility should be barred by all the leaders of these or might with the state.

Good to learn about such an organization. You might also want to check out the work Brights are doing. They are also a secular organization.

Thanks a lot for adding to my knowlege the work of Brights. I highly appreciate their work if it's for greater good and secular

But on the hand if I am not mistaken there are some non-religious group who follow the left-hand path and do bad things.

Yeah and in my opinion most of the religious organizations do "bad" things like forbidding alcohol, safe sex, responsible gambling, euthenasia, interest etc.
