Science vs. My own interpretation

Even if science or scientific knowledge failed to answer any questions whatsoever......even then that doesn't qualify any other explantion, religious or philosophical, to automatically become the correct explanation. The tragedy is however that science continiously works on and builds those theories that are constantly demonstrable and bring out consistent results 100 out of 100 attempts.

When I was 12 years old, I remember being told by my grandfather: Science does not have an answer to everything!

I grew up with that notion. And now that idea has grown ever more stronger. Ofcourse......science does not have every answer. Science is merely a tool to gain answers......and even then only those questions can be answered that can be proven or falsified. For instance......science cannot embark on the quest to find out if there is a "superman" as seen in the classical movie. Science simply cannot prove or disprove that for certainty. However, based on the understanding of laws of physics.....it would be safe to say that no human being has been ever observed to defy the laws of gravity and fly like superman does. Until and unless someone can prove that superman exists......we would just like to have a neutral position.

A lot of religious people are uncomfortable with the idea of science vs. religion. They claim that the two fields are totally different and have contrasting scope. I, on the otherhand, see many things that can be compared:

* Science and religion both offer answers to the functioning of human psychology
* Science and religion both shed light on the issue of how old this planet is
* Both are ways for humanity to learn about his enviornment

The real trouble starts with "My own interpretation". There is no "My own interpretation" in Science. Gravitational principles are same throughout the universe. All elements in the periodic table have atomic masses that are same throughout the universe. Theory of evolution explains how life forms evolve and why. If any person can bring an inconsistency in the theory then the whole evolution idea will be discarded the next minute. However........even after millions of attempts by the angry theists.......none have been able to point to one single inconsistency.

So here I have to choose now. I know that there are two different systems of gaining knowledge in front of me. One is open to all, open to criticism, open to debate, open to challenges, open to exploration, open to experimentation............and the other is everything but what the former is.

My choice of path is quite clear. Even though both may be wrong.....If I am suffering from a disease I would rather ask a seasoned doctor then ask a two year old child who says many things but gets them all wrong.
